Importing Contacts

To get started with your email and SMS campaigns, there’s one very important step you need to take: importing your contacts.

You can import your contacts to Amplified in two different ways:

  • Import from Shopify
  • Import from a CSV or XLSX file

  5. Edit the CSV or XLSX template. (For more information on the file format, see the CSV and XLSX file format section below.)
  6. Head back to your Contacts tab > Import Contacts > click Upload.
How to upload the CSV or XLSX file to Amplified

The upload process consists of the following 3 steps:

  1. Upload your file: This is where you drag and drop the file into the box or select it from your computer.
  2. Change or confirm column matches: This is where you can alter and match the columns in your file to the template fields.
  3. Review and finalize: This gives you a summary of your recorded information. Here you can see the total number of rows, valid, and error entries.
  4. Importing can take some time depending on the size of your list. We will notify you once it is completed.

CSV and XLSX file format

Before you import your contact list, we recommend that you go through the following checklist to ensure your file uploads successfully.

CSV and XLSX file format

  1. The first column in your file should contain these column headers:
    • Email
    • Phone
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Tags
    • Status
    • Email Subscription Status
    • SMS Subscription Status
    • Should Delete?
  2. An email address, phone number, or both must be provided for each contact.
  3. If a contact already exists, information entered on the CSV/XLSX file will override existing information. Otherwise, a new contact will be created.
  4. Multiple tags should be separated by a comma.
  5. Status can be any of the following:
    • Active

Active is the default status. Amplified’s billing is based on your active contacts.

    • Archived

Archived contacts will not receive your marketing messages. They will not be added to your billing as they will not count toward your number of contacts. Leave the Status blank if you do not wish to change the contact's status.

  6. Email and SMS subscriptions can be in one of the following states:
    • Subscribed

If the contact is subscribed to your mailing list.

    • Non-Subscribed

If the contact has interacted with you but has not opted-in to receive marketing campaigns.

    • Unsubscribed

If the contact used to be a member of your mailing list but refused to get more marketing campaigns. If you don't wish to change the contact's Email or SMS subscription status, leave the field blank.

If you don't wish to change the contact's Email or SMS subscription status, leave the field blank.

  7. Should Delete can have either one of these values:
    • True

This indicates that the contact will be deleted.

    • False

This will keep the contact in your Contact List.

    • We recommend setting contacts' status to "archived" instead of deleting them.

  8. Make sure your file contains no additional information besides the header column and the values listed below.
